Jackie Busch – English teacher

September 29, 2008

I am asked often about people that are special to me and in what ways – well I will tell you about a lady that was my English teacher in high school. First, let me set this up – her husband Bob is the greatest guy but very cheap. He would always provide for Jackie and family but when it came to cars, he could not resist a bargain. He bought a sleeper van one time that would break down several times on their yearly trip to Florida. It was funny but Bob knows how to get a deal, I guess. Bob and I collected flags from around the world one time, I will just leave it at that. We were in so much trouble with his bride, Jackie.

So in school, she would tell me things like – man you can do it, you are such a great kid and the world is yours. I needed to hear that at the time and her positive reinforcement and interest in me was very deep and special. Thanks Jackie. She loves to tell story about giving me a zero for sleeping in class one year. It was a long night the night before and I just could not stay awake, but made it on time. Candidly, several of my classmates felt the same. We all got zeros.

Thanks Jackie for being a cool teacher and influence in my life!

Great Weekend!

September 28, 2008

What a whirlwind this weekend was. I was in LA Friday night for an event and pledge to Save Africa’s Children. This was a very cool event and I would challenge you to check out their website. In the green room, I was amazed by the folks invloved and how thier hearts were to make a huge difference. Thanks Bishop Blake for the great hospitality and the difference your vision is making. We are proud to make such a difference in peoples lives!

Now today, I had breakfast at Noshville Deli and ran into a friend of mine from White House. His son has been ill and I was glad to spend time with him. He was at Vanderbelt getting his 6 month MRI and the results will be back on Wednesday. I pray that things will be fine. Today, I was to go to the Titans game but I thought – there are 4 in their family and why don’t they go? I handed off my tickets to them and wish them  a great time at the game. My team is there and I am sure they will miss me ( ha ha ) but it was more important for me to lend a hand out and not think just about myself.

Tiffany joined me for breakfast on her way to band practice for an upcoming concert and I am going to play catch up. I have alot to be thankful for and one of them is the people around me. Now think about this, I did not know that my friend was going to be at Noshville and I had 4 seats to the game today - so why did that happen? I love communicating with my hands and reaching them out to people!

So leaving the office now, going to the gym and thankful for all I have in my life – moving forward and focusing on how bright the future is! What are you focusing on?

Copy and paste of an awesome deal! I am excited to share the stage with these folks!

Soles4Souls™ and Save Africa’s Children Announce Partnership to Benefit Hundreds of Thousands of African Children

Nashville-based shoe charity will appear at Save Africa’s Children Music Festival on Friday, September 26, 2008 in Los Angeles

Nashville TN and Los Angeles, CA — Soles4Souls™ Inc., the international charity dedicated to providing free footwear to those in desperate need, routinely responds to requests for help from victims of natural disasters around the world, such as the recent hurricanes in the U.S. Gulf Coast.  Another key component of the charity’s mission is to give assistance to people living in abject poverty, such as Sub-Saharan Africa.

That’s where the partnership with noteworthy charity Save Africa’s Children (SAC) comes in.  SAC is an African-American founded organization that provides direct support to children affected by the worst possible living conditions: a runaway HIV/AIDS pandemic, abject poverty and civil war, which have combined to create an intolerable existence for millions of children.  SAC has reached over 200,000 children in 21 African nations.

“We are joining with Save Africa’s Children to reach as many African kids as possible,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls Inc.  “Their reputation and programs are inspiring, and we are pleased to provide thousands of shoes to help support the fantastic work they are doing across the African continent,” he said.

“Save Africa’s Children has directed support to over 400 orphan care programs and Soles4Souls has proven success in distributing millions of shoes globally,” said Bishop Charles E. Blake, Founder and CEO of Save Africa’s Children. “In addition to ongoing care and support provided by Save Africa’s Children, these children desperately need quality shoes.  We are honored to partner with Soles4Souls to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in Africa.”

Save Africa’s Children is hosting the first annual Music Festival, Friday, September 26, 2008 at 7:00 PM, at West Angeles Cathedral (3600 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA).

Guitar virtuoso Doc Powell will produce this spectacular star-studded music event, featuring Multiple GRAMMY® Award Winner Yolanda Adams, Host Jonathan Slocumb, Grammy and Stellar winner Kirk Whalum + 3 Generations of Whalums, Grammy winner Pieces of a Dream, world renown Jeff Bradshaw & Brass Heaven, Grammy nominated Guitarist Doc Powell, a Super All-Star Band, Celebrity Hosts and many Surprise Guests.

For tickets to the event, please call (866) 313-2722 for more details or visit www.saveafricaschildren.org.  All proceeds will benefit orphan children in Africa with education, sanitation, water and free footwear.

“The gift of shoes is a simple yet effective way to help erase the stigma of poverty, stop puncture wounds, end scrapes and prevent burns to feet of the poor and destitute,” said Elsey.  “By partnering with Save Africa’s Children and supplementing the wonderful services they provide, we can make a strong impact in the lives of thousands of kids,” he said.

Soles4Souls has already set aside thousands of shoes for the project, but can use any donations to increase the effectiveness of the campaign.  There are several ways people and companies can give assistance: footwear companies can donate new and excess inventory, retailers can host a shoe drive, and individuals can donate shoes or cash to help with shipping expenses.

Today: Laughing at me?

September 23, 2008

Aubree’s mom called me cracking up about my broken toes. She was out of control! Is it that funny?

Georgia started today and I am thrilled to have her on board. As I thought, she was off to a fast start with us and will have our systems fine tuned by the end of the week. Welcome to the team Georgia!

No shoes for me tomorrow!

September 21, 2008

Since I broke my toe and now have determined that I broke two toes not one, I have to fly with one shoe on and one off. This will be interesting. I tried to put on my loafers and no go – so I will wear a sock, I guess. I have had people ask for a picture but I will spare you – black, blue and orange is all you need to know – and painful! Think I am being a wimp- no just a man!

Are you the guy from Soles4Souls?

September 21, 2008

Wow – I was sitting at Coconuts in Cocoa Beach, Florida today and a guy came up to me and asked if I was the guy from Soles4Souls. He had produced a news story about us for the local paper and recognized me from his research. I immediately checked the Internet and what he said was correct. WOW – It amazes me that people are getting what we do – Changing the World One Pair at a Time – and wanting to get plugged in. Something so simple – everyone can do it. While I do not like the attention and the celebrity status, it feels good for people to want to be involved. Thanks Paul for recognizing me and helping us further our reach!

Broke my toe!Sirius Radio Channel 159 8:20 PM EST

September 19, 2008

What can I say, woke up early to get a bottle of water and BOOM – smacked my toe on the bed post. Golf ball size baby toe later and 42 Advil, I will be fine. You know how much of a wimp men get accused of being?

So while my toe is throbbing – poor baby you are saying – I am waiting for our live interview tonight which will exceed 30 minutes on the air on Dave Dwyer’s show this evening. Looking forward to the interview and I promise I will not whine about my toe – maybe!

Melissa and Robbie!

September 18, 2008

I mentioned before Melissa’s love Robbie so I thought I would share a picture of him and her. Do you think she is telling me the truth about not kissing in 2 years. I think so!

Tough times – Wall Street!

September 18, 2008

What a ride we are experiencing on Wall Street. I checked my 401-k and personal investments today and off over 18% ytd. This is troubling but you can not panic. It is long term – not short term. I am 43 and do not plan on retiring for many years, it will rebound soon!

I was reminded by a good friend today that when you go gambling in Vegas – you never hear anyone say how much they lost to gain – they only speak about their gains. Good point!

So what is my point – I do not know – writing this however made me feel better!

Keep the faith!
